High Horse Malibu's FAQ

What should I wear?

If you’re coming for a trail ride or horse lesson, we highly recommend wearing pants or jeans. Boots or closed toed shoes are required for all activities. On sunny days you might want to wear sunscreen or a lightweight long sleeve shirt. If you wear a hat, please make sure it fits tight enough not to be blown off by wind.

Age and weight requirements?

All riders must be under 200lbs. and at least 60" (5 feet) tall. Riders must be at least 8 years old to participate in a trail ride.

I have never ridden a horse before. Is that okay?

We can accommodate riders of all skill levels. All trail rides begin with a 10-15 minute mini-lesson to ensure you’re comfortable and equipped with a basic understanding of horseback riding. Horseback riding is a beautiful experience, and all our horses are well-mannered and well-trained. However, if you have any fears or anxiety about riding, we suggest you book a horsemanship lesson before hitting the trail!

What is your cancellation policy?

All trail rides are fully refundable and eligible for rescheduling up until 48 hours before your ride. Cancelations made with less than 48 hours-notice are non-refundable and ineligible for rescheduling. All rides canceled due to weather on behalf of High Horse Malibu will be rescheduled or fully refunded.

What is your late policy?

There is ALWAYS traffic in Los Angeles. We encourage all guests to arrive 15 minutes early to complete paperwork. There is a 15 minute grace period for being late. After 30 minutes late, the ride is canceled. No refunds will be issued for riders more than 30 minutes late.

Are horses okay with being ridden?

At High Horse Malibu, our horses’ well-being is our first priority! Our horses are never over-worked, and are always excited to take you on your adventure. Our horses benefit from trail rides, lessons, and equine therapy in the form of physical exercise, mental stimulation, and human companionship. They have a very full and very happy life here in Malibu!

May I tip my guide?

The trail guides at High Horse are paid an hourly wage, however if you enjoy your ride and feel so inclined, tips are always appreciated.
