Experience Malibu on horseback with a guided trail ride through the Santa Monica Mountains. High Horse Malibu offers small-group and private horseback rides with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, rugged mountain terrain and some of Malibu's most beautiful backcountry.

For six years, we've specialized in creating safe, personal horseback riding experiences for riders of all experience levels, including complete beginners. 

The Latigo Canyon Ride

Our signature 90-minute Malibu horseback ride takes you into the Santa Monica Mountains, where the landscape opens to views of the Pacific Ocean in one direction and rolling mountains and canyon country in the other.

Our guides also take photos throughout the experience, so you can leave your phone in your pocket and actually enjoy the ride.

Group Trail Rides: starting at $175 per rider

Why ride with High Horse Malibu?

Experience matters when you're trusting someone to put you on a horse.

High Horse Malibu has been taking guests horseback riding through the Santa Monica Mountains for over seven years. Our team brings more than 100 years of combined experience with horses, and our guides are chosen for both their horsemanship and their ability to make riders feel comfortable and confident.

We keep our groups intentionally small, and begin every ride with basic riding and safety instruction. Our horses are at the center of everything we do, and their care, health and suitability for the job come first.

The result is a horseback riding experience that feels personal rather than commercial, whether it's your first time on a horse or you've spent years in the saddle.

  • How much does it cost?

    Group rides are 1.5 hours long and start at $175 per rider. We can accommodate up to four riders at a time. Please call to inquire about larger groups. 

    Private rides are 1.5 hours long and start at $300 per rider. 

  • What to expect...

    All rides begin with basic riding instruction to get you acquainted with your horse and teach you some riding basics. Once everyone is feeling confident, we’ll hit the trail for a beautiful ride. Extra bonus – our guides take awesome photos along the way. 

  • What to wear.

    We recommend wearing long pants or jeans and boots if you have them! If not, any close-toed shoes will work just fine. Helmets are provided but not required.

  • Are there restrictions?

    Must be at least 10 years old to ride.

    Weight limits: 

    Under 5'7: up to 175 lbs 

    5'8" to 6":  up to 200 lbs

    6ft +: up to 220lbs
